Глобальный хаб будет обслуживать как внутриевропейские грузопотоки, так и грузы, перевозимые между Европой и другими континентами. Despite widespread objections to the multi-billion dollar East-West Link and calls for the money to be spent on public transport instead, the Victorian freight and logistics plan called ‘Victoria – The Freight State’ promotes it as the primary solution to the state’s freight woes, along with increased allowances for heavy trucks.

Premier Denis Napthine claimed the government had delivered a solid plan to guide and provide certainty for the freight and logistics sector, which generated $19-$23 billion and thousands of jobs for the state economy each year.

CargoSmart Limited, a Software as a Service (SaaS) global shipping and logistics solutions provider, and Ningbo E-port have successfully integrated their systems, after an initial trial period that began in September 2009. The established connections enable Ningbo E-port customers to improve their supply chain visibility and streamline their shipment management processes. Ningbo E-port is a Chinese government-backed organization that provides an information platform to help logistics service providers and cargo owners efficiently process imports and exports through the Ningbo Port.

Australia’s third east-coast terminal operator Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) has unveiled a web-based, on-demand service called StellarTrak, which will provide HPH’s LoadStar customers with cargo security, monitoring and asset tracking services.

A “revolutionary new container handling system”, aimed at easing the increasing problem of port congestion, is being launched at a technical demonstration in Shanghai at the end of November.

Designated ‘BLOK-BEAM’, the system enables six containers to be lifted and transported as one single block, largely using existing port infrastructure.

Managing director of BLOK-BEAM Ltd John Evans said: “Now that ships are able to deliver around 20,000 20FT containers on one vessel, and the cranes to service them can lift up to 100 tonnes at a time, it is the ports which, in spite of their improved efficiency, have become the focus of attention in ship-to-shore movement.”

TSI Terminal Systems Inc. is now using wireless software from NetMotion Wireless and Workabout Pro mobile devices from Psion Teklogix to manage thousands of shipping containers, multiple shipside gantry cranes and dozens of trucks at their facility in Vancouver, B.C.

TSI is also using these devices at its container terminals in New York and New Jersey to keep up with the constant motion of billions of dollars worth of goods. Workers stationed at the gates use the devices to inspect containers on and off vessels as “bomb carts” shuffle containers about the 162-acre yard in Vancouver, and movable gantries load and offload trucks and rail cars for damage.

Transport planning in NSW is compromised by the NSW government’s unwillingness to consider the option of expanding Sydney Airport into the Port Botany Container Terminal site. Although ministers and bureaucrats say there are no alternatives to their recent transport proposals, the Port Botany terminal can easily be relocated to the best deep-water port on Australia’s eastern seaboard, Newcastle. Port Botany container terminal is the sacred cow of NSW transport policy.
